CHANGE FEELS SCARY SOMETIMESšŸ˜Ø

As humans, we like being in control of what happens to us. Well, donā€™t you?

But you should also remember the fact that you are not omniscient. You donā€™t know all that will happen. And that alone causes change to be scary. More like fear of the unknown. Sometimes, as humans, we fear what we donā€™t know.

A young lady once came to me and said ā€œVincent, Iā€™m scared of the change Iā€™m about to encounter because of a decision Iā€™m about to makeā€

ā€œItā€™s okay to be sacred. Itā€™s okay to be afraid. Itā€™s okay to have these mixed emotions.ā€ I replied her.

She looked me in the eyes and I could see the fear of change through her eyes.

Then I remembered something I read somewhere and said to her:

ā€œYou canā€™t always control what happens to you or around you. But you can get to decide what you will do about itā€ I told her.ā€

She smiled and left with the understanding of two (2) vital things I told her:

1. Change sometimes can be scary and itā€™s okay for you to feel that fear. You canā€™t fight it. You canā€™t resist it. So far you donā€™t know the unknown, you might experience fear because you donā€™t know the unknown or the situations that will cause sharp changes.

2. But you can decide what you will do about it. You can decide how best you will address it.

Embrace change šŸ’

Today, if you have been having that feeling of fear if anything happens, know that you arenā€™t the only person in this.

I donā€™t know how tomorrow will be. You donā€™t also know.

But you can predict (but not control) and work towards what happens in that tomorrow. You can fix an appointment, arrange a meeting, fix dates, decide to travel, go visit someone, etc. You can do these but still, you feel you donā€™t know what will happen tomorrow, until that tomorrow becomes your today.

Why is this so?

Itā€™s because apart from the things youā€™ve set and arranged for tomorrow, tomorrow also has itā€™s own surprises and changes that you arenā€™t aware of. And most times, these surprises come as a shock that you will have to adapt to change very quickly.

This is what makes change scary. This is why sometimes, you might fear change. When crazy things happen, it can make us feel helpless. That helplessness state is what makes change scary.

We donā€™t want to even think of things happening suddenly, because we wouldnā€™t be prepared for it. We wouldnā€™t know how to compose ourselves. We might feel helpless.

I am telling you this today, because I have to let you know why you feel the way you feel. And why you have to know these. So that anytime you experience such, you will understand that itā€™s normal for you to feel that way.

Change, either deliberately or unforeseen, can be scary because you might not fully predict and control how it presents itself. But you can always decide what you going to do about it.

Embrace change šŸ’

Just as you canā€™t control the heavy rain, you can make drainages, bridges and water channels to prevent flood. So when the heavy rain comes, you decide what you will do about it.

Today, know that change might be scary. But remember that change is more afraid of you because you have the power to handle changes effectively. I believe in your power. I believe in you. šŸ’ Your smile is my inspiration ā¤ļø

šŸ˜…šŸ˜…šŸ˜…well, you are the first person to say this to me.

I will always remember that Ishaan, was the first person to tell me that Iā€™m a self development coach. šŸ˜…

All I need to do now is go learn a whole lot about coaching and attend coaching programs šŸ¤—

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚immediately you said ā€œ…swimmingly well…ā€ I remembered how I hid at home because I didnā€™t want to go to the swimming poolšŸ˜‚

You see, I bragged to all my classmates during elementary school that I could swim very well. So when we supposed to have a hangout to go swim, I always looked for an excuse šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

So funny how your comment brought back those memories šŸ˜‚

Iā€™m actually doing good thanks šŸ˜Š

  1. Yes very scary. However, with an open mind you will learn to embrace change. When you think it as your own growth or the whole community will benefit for such thing then you will appreciate change. Take care

  3. I enjoyed reading your post. Change and leaps of faith are scary indeed, sometimes we have to just do it go ahead and flow with it. Knowing somewhere along the way we will land on our feet and have the knowledge of how to react. It is our reaction to change or things happening in our life which is the most important. More often than not people react badly to quick change unless it is a long awaited relief.

You dear Vincent are a very gifted young man. The way you approach people and how you advise them is with much wisdom. You encourage and coach others with good intent it shows clearly in your manner and writing. Be careful about the coaching programs you choose. Bless you.

    1. Let me first start by saying …You have indeed made me look at the post from a different perspective. Thanks for letting that happen šŸ˜ƒ

Yes. Itā€™s how we react and handle the situations that matters the most!
Yes, the default behavior in humans makes them react to change badly. But that behavior can always be worked upon.

Thanks very much for your compliments šŸ™ In fact, what youā€™ve said has strengthened my belief that I CAN DO IT šŸ’ŖšŸ½

Yes. I certainly will be very careful. And I wonā€™t rush it. I will start learning the basis of coaching from skilled coaches. I will follow coaches and build the relationship with them so that I know what they know. Then I will pray to God that he helps me. šŸ™

Then if I need advice, I will always come back to the amazing family members I have here (including you) for advice ā¤ļø
