If Opportunities don’t knock, build a door.

I particularly love Melton Berle for his famous quote (the topic). I fell in love with it the first time I heard it.

Opportunity is something that we all want to have in excess.

But what do you do when it seems like the opportunities aren’t coming your way?

Did you do anything wrong? Did you make a mistake?

No no no.

It’s simply because you haven’t built a door for opportunities to knock on.

How can I build a door?

Good question. It’s a process and I will explain it to you very carefully.

I am going to use the illustration of a carpenter.

When a carpenter wants to build a door, he follows a process.

1. He draws out the framework of the door.💐

So the first thing you do is, picture your definition of success. Picture and imagine yourself in the completed phase of success and achievement.

2. He finds a suitable wood to work on. 💐

Find out your passion and talent that you can work on towards your success and achievement. Choose something in you that it’s suitable for you to achieve the picture of your achievements and success that you’ve imagined.

3. He picks the right tools and starts constructing the door. 💐

In this case, the tools you need to build your door for opportunities is Hardwork, Determination, consistency, focus, patience, perseverance, right attitude, gratitude. Your hammer must be hardwork, your nails must be consistency, your measuring tape must be focus. Your cutting machine must be patience. Just like the carpenter has the hammer, nails, etc. You must also have determination, focus, etc, as tools to build your own door also.

4. After working on the door, he completes it and fixes it at the right location. 💐

After you’ve used your tools (patience, hard work, determination, etc) to build your door, you must now fix it at the right place. You can’t put your door at the place for a window. No one knocks on a window. You must put your door where it will receive knocks from people.

After you’ve completed your door, it appears at the front of your passion and talents. So when people see you, they see opportunities. Opportunities will begin to locate you because you have built a door that it can use to get in touch in you.

Opportunities comes in different forms.

It can be through people, it can be by just being in the right location, it can be by just uttering a word, it can be anyhow.

So if you would follow the above process, you can build a door for opportunities to locate you in whatever you do.

The most important thing is, you must first know what type of opportunities that you are seeking. And how you can work towards making it possible.

If Forbes magazine wants to publish your article on their website, you must have been writing many articles and must have gained trusted followers, before the opportunity of Forbes considering you will knock on your door.

If you want Ted X opportunities to knock on your door, then you must be doing things that will attract Ted X to you or make them consider you.

Before opportunities can knock on your door, you have to do things that will attract them.

And to do that, you must be constantly working on your dreams. Make your dreams a reality. This is a short reminder that you can achieve anything if you put your mind to it.

  1. Interesting way to chart the plan and goal setting to make opportunities come to you. It is so essential to work on all the 4 points you mentioned its about planning the time working on it and taking things in your hands and making it happen. It may take sometime to achieve what you want but you will get there and get that opportunity after all. Very inspiring post Vincent as always ,Thanks for sharing. Have a wonderful day ahead. 🙂 : ) 🙂

I really appreciate your time in reading and commenting.

You are absolutely right. We should work towards making it happen. It’s when we are working hard, that’s when opportunities locate us.

Opportunities locates us while in the process.

It takes time, but the time will always worth it.

      Thanks so much again 😃

    1. Thanks 😊

It’s simple, you can make one using mailchimp or any other services.

I use mailchimp because it has a free plan. But I’m thinking migrating to sendinblue.

I’m still reading reviews on google. I want to settle on one before I build my subscribers. So I will still check out more, and I will definitely let you know.

You can check out and do your research also on google 😃

  2. I did an interview once and somebody asked me if I was a lucky person and I thought about it and realized I don’t believe in luck. I think luck is just being properly prepared when an opportunity presents itself.

    1. 😃Josh!

Yes you are right, people misinterpret luck most times.

But I have been enlightened by what you said. “Luck is properly prepared when an opportunity presents itself”

      Thanks so much for commenting.

As for what we’ve discussed, I will soon send a preview. Just few more things to do.

  3. So so beautiful and inspiring post! Absolutely loved it. Hope that it could reach many people who seem to believe that they have nothing but hurdles in their life and that they can’t move forward..
Misconceptions of people lead them the wrong way. Even if people say that they believe themself, they actually don’t! They believe more in their luck and their incapabilities.
    Good article, Vincent!!!

    1. Thanks so much for reading and commenting Aathmana 🤗

You will never cease to amaze me with your very thoughtful and insightful words.

The first step is believing. Then action.

But people don’t believe in themselves. And that’s the source of the problem.

  4. Thanks for sharing this Vincent – create your own door(s) or opportunities. I love this – making wise use of one’s time is important in achieving all we envision. And it’s important we include Him in the envisioning too. 🤗
